■520    ▼aMany  scholars  are  perplexed  when  it  comes  to  the  Complutensian  Polyglot  (hereafter  CP).  Many  are  ignorant  of  its  contributions.  Scholars  like  Von  Soden  and  Bentley  have  suggested  that  the  CP  Greek  text  was  a  Vulgate  translation.  Furthermore,  scholars  are  uncertain  as  to  which  of  Erasmus'  editions,  if  any,  the  CP  text  influenced.  Up  to  the  present,  when  scholars  have  failed  to  identify  which  Greek  manuscripts  of  the  New  Testament  the  CP  scholars  used,  they  ignore  the  text  and  fail  to  identify  what  contributions  this  text  has  had  on  Biblical  studies..
■520    ▼aIn  this  dissertation,  through  my  collations  of  the  CP  text  of  the  Apocalypse  of  St.  John  against:  Erasmus'  four  editions  of  his  New  Testament  text  of  the  Apocalypse  of  St.  John,  as  well  as  Zane  C.  Hodges'  and  Arthur  L.  Farstad's  Majority  Text  (hereafter  TR),1  not  only  will  I  demonstrate  that  the  CP  was  a  very  conscientious  work  that  influenced  Erasmus'  fourth  edition,  but  that  it  was  not  a  translation  from  the  Latin  Vulgate  as  scholars  have  proposed  in  the  past.  Furthermore,  through  these  collations  I  will  not  only  indicate  what  influence  the  CP  had  over  Erasmus's  fourth  edition,  but  also  how  much  influence  it  exerted.  Finally,  these  collations  will  provide  a  foundation  upon  which  text  critics  can  build.
