■520    ▼aThe  purpose  of  this  dissertation  was  to  determine  and  analyze  the  benefits  of  developing  and  implementing  a  purpose  statement  on  church  growth.  Chapter  one  findings  were  presented  from  an  investigation  into  the  origins  of  the  church  growth  movement,  the  usage  of  the  term  church  growth,  the  foundational  principles,  and  the  factors  common  among  growing  churches.
■520    ▼aChapter  two  findings  were  presented  from  an  investigation  into  how  to  develop  and  implement  a  purpose  statement  and  the  reported  benefits  to  church  growth.  The  chapter  contains  information  on  the  definition  of  and  the  leader's  role  related  to  the  statement.  Additionally,  keys  to  maintaining  a  clear  sense  of  purpose,  characteristics  of  purpose-driven  organizations,  and  selected  reported  benefits  of  purpose  statements  were  discussed.
■520    ▼aChapter  three  findings  were  gathered  from  a  forty-nine  item  survey  that  was  designed  and  conducted.  The  survey  was  used  to  determine  the  perceived  validity  of  the  reported  benefits  and  to  gain  insights  into  the  level  of  development  and  implementation  by  each  church  tested.  Questions  were  constructed  about  the  written  statement,  the  understanding  and  commitment  to  the  purpose,  and  the  characteristics  of  a  purpose-driven  church.  The  questionnaire  was  given  to  eighty  members  of  three  growing  churches  and  the  pastors  of  those  churches  which  had  attempted  to  develop  and  implement  a  purpose  statement.
■520    ▼aThe  fourth  chapter  presented  a  summary,  conclusions,  and  suggestions  for  continuing  research.  The  completion  of  the  research  problem  led  to  several  conclusions.  First,  many  factors  have  been  associated  with  causing  or  assisting  churches  to  grow.  However,  the  establishment  of  a  purpose-driven  church  was  a  prominent  factor.
■520    ▼aSecond,  church  leaders  can  learn  how-to  properly  develop  and  implement  a  purpose  statement.  The  leader  of  the  church  plays  the  most  important  role  in  the  process.  He  needs  to  understand  his  role,  factors  related  to  writing  and  implementing  the  statement,  keys  to  maintaining  a  clear  sense  of  purpose,  and  how  to  evaluate  his  and  the  church's  effectiveness  with  respect  to  the  purpose.
■520    ▼aThird,  churches  which  process  a  purpose  statement  should  receive  multiple  benefits  related  to  church  growth.  Additionally,  the  benefits  received  will  probably  be  related  to  the  level  of  effectiveness  in  developing  and  implementing  the  statement.
