■520    ▼aThe  Sacramento  Delta  of  California  is  central  to  one  of  the  nation's  largest  water  storage  and  delivery  systems.  Within  its  area  are  500,000  acres  of  prime  agriculture,  alongside  a  delicately  balanced  ecosystem.  The  network  of  channels,  sloughs  and  rivers  is  constrained  by  1,100  miles  of  levees  that  could  potentially  deteriorate  as  a  result  of  erosion  by  wind-generated  waves.  This  thesis  examines  the  contribution  of  wind  generated  waves  to  erosion  of  Delta  levees.  A  computer  model  was    designed  to  calculate  wind-wave  generated  erosion  potential  using  the  modified  Sverdrup-Munk-Bretschneider  method,  an  input  wind  scenario  and  vector-based  GIS  maps  for  the  analysis.  Three  simulations  are  presented,  (1) directional  trials  used  to  demonstrate  model  functionality,  (2) the  wind  profile  of  a  winter  storm  and  (3) wind  climatologies  representing  average  yearly  wind  conditions  for  the  region.
