■520    ▼aThis  project  focused  on  the  need  for  the  twenty-first  century  Protestant  church  located  in  the  inner  city  of  North  America  to  establish  spiritual  training  programs  that  will  aid  in  the  intentional  development  and  preparation  of  emerging  lay  leaders  to  become  and  serve  as  spiritual  leaders.  The  project,  designed  to  challenge  the  participants  to  examine  their  spiritual  life,  took  place  over  a  five  month  period  in  an  inner  city  megachurch.  The  subsequent  manual  engaged  the  participants  in  prayer,  biblical  and  theological  reflection,  study,  meditation,  and  fellowship.  Key  elements  of  the  project  were  the  fundamental  understanding  of  the  foundation  for  Christian  ministry  and  the  ministries  of  the  church;  Biblical  leadership  qualifications  and  ensuing  implications  due  to  a  lack  of  adequate  spiritual  training;  and  assessment  of  the  processes  God  uses  to  shape  His  leaders  for  Christian  service.  The  impact  and  success  of  the  project  was  revealed  in  final  reflection  papers  and  the  request  for  additional  classes  which  highlight  spiritual  formation  and  Christlikeness.  The  impact  confirmed  that  spiritual  training  is  vital  to  the  continued  spiritual  life  of  the  church.
