요약The primary goal of this study sought to determine the extent of the relationship between the leadership practices of Christian mid-adolescents and their levels of partnership with adults in the Christian church youth ministry context. Mid-adolescents, who had been identified by their respective youth pastors as leaders within their church youth ministry contexts, participated in this study. A total of 29 churches from four Midwest districts of one denomination were selected as a convenience sample.
Abstracts/Etc
요약This study utilized the Student Leadership Practices Inventory (SLPI) (Self-version) to assess five leadership practices, and the Involvement and Interaction Rating Scale (IIRS) to assess levels of youth-adult partnerships. The sample consisted of 188 (100 females) participants. The data were analyzed by using ANOVA tests, t-tests, Tukey post-hoc procedures and Pearson Product Moment Correlations to assess the differences between groups, and to search for the relationships between mid-adolescent leadership practices and their partnership with adults.
Abstracts/Etc
요약The findings revealed that there were very weak positive correlations between the Model the Way (MTW), Enable Others to Act EOA), and Encourage the Heart (ETH) leadership practices and Youth Involvement, while the MTW and ETH leadership practices were very weakly positively correlated to Youth-Adult Interaction. Overall there was a very weak positive correlation discovered between the SLPI and IIRS composite scores. Mid-adolescents with one year of leadership experience scored significantly lower on the MTW leadership practice than the group with three years of experience and the effect size was medium (η2 = .056). Females scored significantly higher than males on Youth Involvement and the magnitude of the difference was medium (d = .32). Females also scored significantly higher on the EOA leadership practices than males and the magnitude of the difference was medium (d = .35). Other significant differences were discovered but the effect sizes were small which indicated there was no practical significance in the findings.
Abstracts/Etc
요약Mid-adolescents attributed their development toward becoming a godly leader to two key groups of influence: (a) non-parental adults in church, and (b) parents. Qualities that mid-adolescents admired, or thought were important, in leadership, included two predominantly mentioned clusters: love and character (33% of responses).
