요약 : This study examines Calvin's solution to the apparently paradoxical concepts of divine preservation and Christian perseverance, which is a perennial question of suffering Christians of all times. The thesis of the present study is that Calvin's doctrine of Christian suffering was primarily influenced by his Christocentric view, and in particular union with Christ. He elaborates on it in the context of divine preservation and Christian perseverance. While Calvin puts emphasis on the former, he also underscores the latter in the course of developing his unique notion of the role of Christian conscience in the relationship between God and the believer.
초록/해제
요약 : The thesis is developed around two ideas, essential to Christian's view of Christian suffering?the believer's union with Christ and the role of Christian conscience. The first chapter (Part I) provides the historical background of Calvin's thought, and in particular the theological development prior to Calvin that had some bearing on his point of view. We survey the reflections of those before Calvin?Thomas a Kempis, Martin Luther, and the Anabaptists?who also had a keen interest in the theme of suffering and the role of the conscience.

요약 : In the next two chapters (Part II) have three objectives: (1) to examine the historical background in which Calvin was situated in order to understand why and how the Christian's suffering became one of his central theological subjects, (2) to observe in what manner Calvin's reacted to the general condition of the persecution in his motherland, as well as his unpleasant with the Nicodemites, contributed to the shaping of his theological view of Christian suffering, and (3) to verify whether Calvin's various writings written to respond to various persecutions, confirm our thesis.
초록/해제
요약 : The last three chapters (Part III) attempt to achieve four objectives that are in conjunction with the previous two chapters: (1) to verify further the distinctiveness of Calvin's notion of the Christian conscience in the context of the divine and human relationship, (2) to study in detail the way in which he implements union with Christ in the dynamic between divine preservation and Christian perseverance, (3) to obtain Calvin's practical insights applicable to the lives of persevering Christians, and (4) to examine the Calvin's hermeneutical insights on our topic by examining his Commentaries in depth, as well as his Institutes when necessary.
초록/해제
요약 : Even today, faithful Christians are persecuted and die a martyr's death. In addition, every Christian should choose to suffer for the glory of God, since following Christ presupposes Christian suffering. God is in control behind the scenes at all the times, but the believer's responsibility to persevere to the end by overcoming hardships and sufferings through faith should not be neglected. As a result, the danger of hypocrisy and apostasy in the context of Christian suffering is to be formed everywhere and at any time. Therefore, our study contributes to pay more attention to the importance of the role of the Christian conscience of the believer in order to solve the problem of ever-increasing Christian suffering.
