요약 : The doctrine of the resurrection of the body is determinative of any Christian theology of the body. The project presses consideration of how this doctrine is central to understanding the body as integral to holiness. It is an argument that we cannot know our own bodies, either what they are or what they are for, outside of Jesus Christ. Methodologically, it is a constructive theology of the body, which proceeds through close reading of traditional texts on the doctrine of bodily resurrection. The manuscript is about human bodies, but the gendered body serves as a running test case. Any adequate understanding of human life in the body requires an account of the brokenness of the body. Augustine gives the body a double status; it is good by virtue of being created by God and disordered by the effects of sin. The right ordering of people towards God will be accomplished in the resurrection body. Calvin's doctrine entails a denigration of bodies deeply problematic for feminist ethics. He helps us to see why we cannot conceive the body as an obstacle between creature and Creator. The constructive work presses these accounts in order to explore the body in systematic theological location. In order to make sense of sanctification in light of resurrection doctrine, human creatures must be understood as psychosomatic unities on analogy with the hypostatic union. The ordered body offers judgment on our culture's ways of producing bodies marked by malformed concepts of race and gender. The value of the project is in its theological implications for overcoming Western anti-somatic tendencies. In the particular body of Christ, the particular bodies of all are transformed but never destroyed. The concrete body of Christ is the reference point for conceptualizing bodies and the possibility that they may be ordered towards God. Redemption happens through the body, through the physical continuance of the materiality that makes us who we are, of material availability, of material vulnerability, and especially of material witness.
