요약 : As DCEs gain more acceptances within Korean-American churches, there is increasing concern regarding the vitality of this profession. The goal of this study was to determine the current status of DCEs in Korean-American churches and the factors which influence their job satisfaction including the relationship between their senior pastors' leadership style and their job satisfaction.
초록/해제
요약 : This study used a descriptive research method utilizing surveys to describe the profession of DCEs in Korean-American churches. The study also used the causal-comparative and correlational research methods as it investigates the relationships between job satisfaction of Directors of Christian Education and various factors including the perceived leadership style of their senior pastors. The sample consisted of 164 Directors of Christian Education in Korean-American churches from Southern California, New York, New Jersey, Texas and Virginia.
초록/해제
요약 : The current DCEs in Korean-American churches were predominantly male, Korean, and Bilingual “first” or “1.5” generations who were in their 30s. Most of them were not adequately prepared as a DCE in their seminaries. Many of them were overseeing age-level education ministries (i.e. children, youth) while functioning as a DCE. They did not have a strong sense of calling to educational ministry and did not have a long-term commitment as DCEs. Their ministry experiences were relatively short (about seven years) and also had a short tenure of two and a half years.
초록/해제
요약 : Most demographic factors (i.e. gender, age, employment and ordination status, degree and major length of tenure and ministry experiences) had weak or no influence in DCEs' job satisfaction. Some of the intrinsic factors such as sense of calling to educational ministry, value of current ministry, sense of achievement in the current ministry and sense of satisfaction with life in general showed some potential influence on DCEs' job satisfaction.
초록/해제
요약 : The “first” and “1.5” generations were both more satisfied with their jobs then the “second” generation. Korean and bilingual speaking DCEs were significantly more satisfied with their jobs then English speaking DCEs. Thus, generation (i.e. first, 1.5 or second) and language preference (Korean, bilingual, or English) were clearly related to job satisfaction. DCEs who perceived their pastors to be “Democratic” leaders were more satisfied then DCEs with either “Autocratic” or “Laissez-faire” senior pastors.
