요약 : An evaluation and conclusion follows the aforementioned. Here practical application of some features of Campbell's Eucharistic theology is suggested, and my historiographical contributions are set forth.

요약 : Chapter two provides real and potential sources of influence upon Campbell's theology while respectfully acknowledging the place of supremacy he gave to the Bible.

요약 : Chapters three and four form the heart of the investigative portion of the dissertation, with the focus being on the Lord's Supper, Christian unity, and Alexander Campbell's perspective. The major features of these chapters and points of discussion concern the "grace" element of the Eucharist and the issue of open and close Communion. Here Campbell is shown to have invested far more in the Lord's Supper than its priority, frequency, and memorialism. In other words, grace maintains a prominent position in his theology, and it is particularly manifested by the presence of Christ in the event. In addition, Campbell seems to portray an "ambivalence" in the matter of open and close Communion, but it is suggested that the practical outworking of his position resulted in "open" Communion and unity in the Supper, at least in his own timeframe.

요약 : The first chapter is a biographical survey of the life of Alexander Campbell incorporating the most recent available biographical material (Eva Jean Wrather's) and the primary standard source (Robert Richardson) along with other sources. The purpose is to set forth Campbell's marked contemporary influence, historical factors that shaped the man, and a rationale for acknowledging him today.

요약 : This dissertation provides a perusal of both a significant historical religious leader and his theology and practice of the Lord's Supper, along with an assessment by contemporary scholars and a final personal evaluation by the author. The man is Alexander Campbell, primary first generation leader of a Christian restoration, revival, and reform movement that is variously referred to as the Restoration Movement, the Stone-Campbell Movement, and the Reformation of the Nineteenth Century. Though ostensibly a unity movement, it has nonetheless ushered in three distinct religious bodies commonly known as the Church of Christ (non-instrumental), the Christian Church, and the Disciples of Christ.
