■520    ▼aThere  has  been  an  increase  in  emphasis  on  small  groups  within  the  church,  whose  goal  is  to  encourage  growth  in  Christ  through  the  study  of  God's  Word,  prayer,  worship,  and  fellowship.  Although  the  study  of  God's  Word  is  frequently  identified  as  a  primary  function  of  the  small  group  ministry,  preparation  of  small  group  leaders  to  be  effectual  teachers  has  not  received  the  same  emphasis.  Many  small  group  leaders  do  not  know  how  to  interpret  and  communicate  the  different  literary  genres  of  Scripture,  including  narrative  literature,  because  they  have  not  been  equipped  to  do  so.
■520    ▼aThis  project  was  designed  to  develop  the  skill  of  the  small  group  leader  in  teaching  biblical  narratives.  The  strategy  used  to  accomplish  this  was  six  three-hour  training  sessions  on  the  topics  of  basic  hermeneutics,  influence  of  literary  genre,  structure  of  biblical  narrative,  and  delivery  style.  The  project  assumed  the  small  group  leader  had  limited  formal  instruction  in  biblical  hermeneutics  and  homiletics.
