요약 : Finally, the work analyzes the order of worship, eucharist, baptismal rites, lectionary and liturgical year in the Book of Common Worship. It is compared to Roman Catholic, Episcopal, Lutheran, United Methodist, and United Church of Christ resources, revised in the same period. The liturgical texts are examined in their context, including the history of the worshipping assembly and surrounding ritual, music, art, and symbolism.

요약 : Part one is a historical and bibliographical essay on the eucharist, baptism, order of worship, preaching, and the liturgical year. It examines the thought of the Reformers, especially Zwingli and Calvin and their English and Scottish successors, such as John Knox. The Puritan controversy shaped American Presbyterian worship from its founding in 1788 to the ecumenical era.

요약 : Second, the work traces the development of an ecumenical model for worship since 1960, influenced by the Second Vatican Council, new developments in biblical, patristic and liturgical studies, and ecumenical conversations. The World Council of Churches' document, Baptism, Eucharist, and Ministry, 1982, was especially important in defining ecumenical agreement. The 1961 Directory for Worship marked the beginning of the revision of Presbyterian resources. The Worshipbook, 1970, included the first Protestant adaptation of the post-Vatican II Roman lectionary. After the merger of the northern and southern churches into the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) in 1983, Supplemental Liturgical Resources were produced, tested and revised into the Book of Common Worship, 1993. A new Directory for Worship was added to the constitution in 1989. A hymnal was issued in 1990 and a psalter in 1993.
초록/해제
요약 : The Book of Common Worship, 1993, remains true to the scriptural foundations of Reformed worship and the ecumenical model. Though its use is voluntary, it has the potential to reassert a more formal stream of worship in the Reformed tradition and to maintain the centrality of worship as the church's means of praising God and forming Christian identity and community.
초록/해제
요약 : The dissertation is a study of relevant liturgical texts and documents to ascertain the movement in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) toward a Reformed and ecumenical worship that remains true to the biblical roots and meaning of worship.
