요약 : Part Three evaluates Calvin's teachings and their contribution to a comprehensive theology on the Jews by Christians in the Reformed tradition. Included here is a brief analysis of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)'s 1987 study paper on the relationship between Christians and Jews. The dissertation concludes by offering six proposals for initiating a revised teaching on Judaism.

요약 : Part Two is an inquiry into Calvin's teachings on those subjects specifically related to Judaism: the Hebrew Scriptures, the covenant, the law, and Romans 9-11. What is revealed are the reformer's beliefs that the Hebrew Scriptures are essential for a knowledge of God as Creator and Redeemer, that the covenant with Abraham has continuing validity, as well as the law, and that Calvin's exegesis of Romans 9-11 expressed hope for the salvation of those Jews who are among the remnant chosen by God. Finally, Part Two explores his three basic criticisms of the Jews: their reliance on their lineage with Abraham, their faith in good works, and their rejection of Christ.

요약 : The Introduction explains the reasons why such a study is necessary in light of the Holocaust and the Jewish-Christian dialogue. Part One of the project examines the historical background of Calvin and the Jews by first reviewing the historical treatment of the Jews up to the Reformation as well as the Christian teachings which had evolved. It then reviews the historical situation of the Jews in Geneva and France to discover any possible relationship between them and the reformer in the sixteenth century.

요약 : The purpose of this dissertation in historical theology is to evaluate the contribution John Calvin's teachings on the Jews have made for Christian Reformed theology. The major sources used in this endeavor include the Institutes of the Christian Religion, several of his biblical commentaries, sermons, treatises, and the work "Ad quaestiones et obiecta judaei cuiusdam responsio Johannes Calvivi.".
