요약 : Part Three (chapter 9) offers a brief retrospect of the last thirty years of discussion of the Kingdom of God. For New Testament studies, among other things noted are the gradual demise of the end-of-the-world Kingdom, the effects of the newer critical tools on the Kingdom's interpretation, and the better understanding of the first-century eschatological thought. Systematic presentations of the Kingdom in the last thirty years have been overrun by notions of praxis. Such presentations, while contributing an important dimension for Christian social ethics in the name of the Kingdom, unfortunately, are not all viable as compelling Christian theology.

요약 : Part Two (chapters 6-8) describes and assesses the important systematic interpretations of the Kingdom since the advent of Political Theology in the early 1960's. The Kingdom of God in Political and Liberation theologies is discussed in terms of their major representatives Jurgen Moltmann and Latin American Liberation Theology respectively. Part Two concludes with the systematic expressions of the Kingdom in post-Vatican II Roman Catholicism, the ecumenical movement of the World Council of Churches and three newer streams of Evangelicalism making use of the theme of the Kingdom of God: the Lausanne Congresses, Theonomy, and the Signs and Wonders movement.

요약 : These new approaches are treated in three parts. The four chapters of Part One (chapters 2-5) comprise the various interpretations of the Kingdom in important New Testament and Historical Jesus studies of the last thirty years. Categorized under the general rubrics of apocalyptic or non-apocalyptic views of the Kingdom, Part One describes and evaluates the understanding of the Kingdom of God by the recent, influential writers of the New Hermeneutic, the Newer Literary Criticism, the Third Quest of the Historical Jesus, and other modern scholars representing previously established views of the Kingdom of God in the teaching of Jesus.

요약 : This study updates and expands the surveys of the history of the interpretation of the Kingdom of God in the teaching of Jesus published in 1963 by Norman Perrin and Gosta Lundstrom. Developments in philosophical hermeneutics and historical criticism in addition to socio-political events of the last thirty years demonstrate that Perrin's and Lundstrom's works were important gathering points for new exegetical and systematic approaches to the Kingdom of God.
