Deep waters- [e-book] : Adult baptism in a Presbyterian church

초록/해제: 요약 : In response to the felt need for those interviewed to be incorporated in the work and worship of the church, it is suggested, consistent with a Reformed theology of grace, that a post-baptismal (rather than pre-baptismal) series of classes be established to facilitate this. An evaluation of this project, along with suggestions for further research and a summary of possible ministry applications is included.

초록/해제: 요약 : The interview responses were coded under separation, transition, and incorporation categories using the three-stage framework for interpreting rites of passage developed by Arnold Van Gennep. The incorporation stage was analyzed in relation to Reformed covenant theology categories.

초록/해제: 요약 : There were clear connections to all three stages in the narrative accounts. Separations were relational and included death, divorce and re-location. The transition stage was not as distinct but almost always included a conductor or guide who led the person through this stage to the church community. The incorporation stage elicited the strongest responses from those interviewed and is analyzed in both sociological and theological categories as a relational event.

초록/해제: 요약 : This final project explores the narrative experiences of adult baptism candidates at Rockville Presbyterian Fellowship, a recent new church development of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). This topic was chosen due to the importance of targeting adult baptisms in any new church development, the importance of the development of appropriate sacramental practices and the laity's expressed interest in the meanings of baptism. Interview questions were designed to elicit the baptismal candidate's life experiences leading up to and following the event of baptism and to explore the respondents understanding and interpretation of the baptism rite.
