■520    ▼aIn  reading  the  Puritans,  I  came  to  the  conviction  that  a  biblical  methodology  of  church  growth  was  seen  as  growth  in  faith  and  obedience.  I  based  the  project  on  preaching  and  teaching  from  the  Scripture  five  principles  of  (what  I  called)  the  Puritan  methodology  of  church  growth:  First,  if  we  want  to  grow  as  Christians  and  the  Church,  the  Word  of  God  must  be  central  to  our  life  in  worship.  Second,  if  we  want  to  grow  as  Christians  and  the  Church,  we  must  obey  Jesus  and  evangelize.  Third,  if  we  want  to  grow  as  Christians  and  the  Church,  we  must  engage  in  regular  hospitality  in  fellowship  with  non-Christians  and  our  fellow  Christians.  Fourth,    if  we  want  to  grow  as  Christians  and  the  Church,  we  must  pray  rightly,  privately,  and  corporately.  Fifth,  if  want  to  grow  as  Christians  and  the  Church,  we  must  receive  the  Lord's  Supper  frequently,  properly  and  worthily.    I  measured  the  increase  in  faith  and  obedience  based  on  the  taking  of  the  same  survey  before  and  after  preaching  and  teaching  the  congregation  these  principles  to  see  if  the  congregation  had  understood  and  believed  them.  Based  on  a  seven  percent  overall  increase  in  understanding  and  agreement  with  the  Puritan  church  growth  methodology  and  its  principles,  as  well  as  some  specific  positive  actions  taken  by  the  congregation  in  response  to  the  preaching  and  teaching,  I  found  this  methodology  to  be  successful.
■520    ▼aThis  paper  and  project  were  designed  with  the  conviction  that  the  current  understanding  that  church  growth  is  an  increase  in  the  number  of  participants  in  worship  and  the  amount  of  money  given  in  the  offering  is  not  a  biblical  understanding  of  church  growth.  I  argued,  instead,  that  numerical  growth,  biblically,  is  God's  work,  though  God  does  work  through  means.
