요약An examination of this project will be helpful to those who are interested in a congregation's perception of the sacrament of Holy Communion in relationship to traditional Lutheran teachings.

요약The brief survey provided boundaries used to explore the understanding of some of the issues that surround the sacrament of Communion. The framework for understanding the sacrament of the Lord's Supper in this congregation was developed from the context of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The first step was to survey an interview pool of twelve active members in this congregation regarding their understanding of the sacrament of Holy Communion. The results were then used to ascertain some of the central themes and understandings of the congregation, regarding the same issue. The congregational survey was developed from these results. The congregation was then surveyed.

요약The findings from these studies indicate this congregation has an articulate understanding of Holy Communion, with strong convictions about forgiveness, testament and covenant in Communion. A unique finding was that the majority of respondents thought that an early communion age is appropriate. This also points out that the congregations' thoughts on an appropriate age for communion runs in opposition to the majority of ELCA congregations' views of Communion participation. This also indicated a need for educational resources that are age and developmentally appropriate for families to use in teaching their children about the sacrament of Communion.
Abstracts/Etc
요약The purpose of this project proposal has been to study the perceptions of New Covenant Lutheran Church of Scottsdale, Arizona, on Holy Communion in relationship to the Lutheran teachings on this sacrament. The issue that prompted the study was the practice of communion which is very open for all people to participate in, including infants and toddlers, and a current debate within the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America on the appropriateness of having infants communing.
