요약 : The analysis of the examples of righteous responses in Romans 5--8 demonstrates conclusively that sanctification inevitably and necessarily results from justification.

요약 : This study centers around the question of the relationship between justification and sanctification in Paul's theology. Some have suggested that a line of separation should be drawn between the two so that sanctification is dependent upon the obedience of the believer. On the other hand, those following in the train of the Reformers argue that justification and sanctification are inseparably linked and that believers inevitably demonstrate positive ethical responses once they have exercised saving faith.

요약 : To demonstrate the need for such a study five groups within evangelical Christianity are studied in order to see how they explain this relationship. The Wesleyan, Pentecostal, Keswick, and Chaferian approaches, though differing in some significant ways, all agree in their belief that some type of human act of obedience is required prior to growth in sanctification. The Reformed approach differs in that it sees a vital connection between justification and sanctification. The thesis of this paper is to show that sanctification inevitably and necessarily results from justification in the theology of Paul.

요약 : To support this thesis Romans 5--8 is studied in detail. The investigation proceeds in the following direction: first, the argument of the particular chapter in Romans is undertaken; second, the examples of righteous responses found during the exegetical study are delineated; third, an investigation of each response is conducted. During this last step the crucial question regarding the inevitability versus the potentiality of the example is asked. The study shows that fifteen righteous responses occur in these four chapters. The five that appear to be the most unambiguous in their presentation as inevitable responses resulting from justification include boasting in hope, in tribulations and in God (5:2, 3, 11), present shame in regard to sin (6:21), serving in newness of Spirit (7:6), groaning for bodily redemption (8:23), and love for God (8:28).
