■520    ▼aAn  examination  of  Jewish  apocalyptic  writings  prior  to  and  contemporaneous  with  the  New  Testament  follows  in  chapter  three.  The  primary  concern  of  the  chapter  is  to  determine  the  apocalyptists'  view  of  the  created  order  and  particularly  whether  the  writings  represent  a  genuinely  other-worldly  perspective  to  the  neglect  of  the  present  natural  order.

■520    ▼aFinally,  pertinent  passages  from  the  Gospels,  Romans  8,  Colossians  1,  and  2  Peter  3  are  addressed  followed  by  a  study  of  the  role  of  creation  theology  in  Revelation.  The  discussion  is  carried  out  with  a  view  toward  clarifying  the  New  Testament  apocalyptic  understanding  of  the  natural  world  and  its  ultimate  redemption.
■520    ▼aIn  order  to  demonstrate  the  thesis,  this  study  develops  along  two  foci:  one  evaluates  whether  the  biblical  writings,  and  most  importantly  the  apocalyptic  works,  evince  any  interest  in  the  created  order  itself.  The  other  attempts  to  determine  whether  the  anticipation  of  the  new  heavens  and  new  earth  is  actually  a  call  for  an  escape  from  a  "this-worldly"  experience.
■520    ▼aThe  study  concludes  that  the  apocalyptic  motif  of  cosmic  renewal  reflects  a  positive  attitude  toward  the  created  order.  The  theme  of  the  new  heavens  and  new  earth  evoked  in  the  minds  of  the  apocalyptists  and  biblical  writers  the  anticipation  of  God's  holistic  salvation  embracing  mankind  and  the  universe  rather  than  a  negative  view  of  the  creation.
