요약 : Pentecostal-Charismatic Restoration theology, or Restorationism, consists of a cluster of hermeneutical themes focused on the restoring of New Testament Christianity. The concept of restoration is characteristic of a series of movements throughout the history of Christianity. Common to these movements is a belief that there is a historical and spiritual discontinuity between original Christianity and its later developments, and that the restitution of primitive Christianity is both imperative and achievable in the present day. Restorationism is a contemporary expression of this thesis.
초록/해제
요약 : The biblical concept of restoration is essentially eschatological. In the hands of Restorationists, however, it is given an ecclesiological focus. Many of the problematic aspects of Restorationism are due to this hermeneutical misalignment. A deeper problem is its implicit perfectionism. At its best, however, Restorationism represents a vigorous and serious grassroots attempt to apply a Kingdom-conscious inaugurated eschatology to church life at the end of the twentieth century.
초록/해제
요약 : The first two chapters establish a hermeneutical context for Restorationism in historical theology. They suggest that the restoration movements of history have formed, not a linear succession, but shared pool of ideas. Chapter 1 traces the restoration idea from its earliest expressions through its non-charismatic forms of the nineteenth century. Chapter 2 takes up charismatic restorationism from the nineteenth century onward. A direct lineage for Pentecostal-Charismatic Restorationism is found in the marriage of influences from the Latter Rain Movement (ca. 1950) with the Charismatic Movement of the 1960's and 1970's.
초록/해제
요약 : The main body of the dissertation comprises a critical analysis of the hermeneutics of Restorationism. Chapter 3 examines the concept of the Kingdom, the meaning of "restoration," and the theological hermeneutic which Restorationism applies to history. Chapter 4, which deals with ecclesiological hermeneutics, is the heart of the dissertation. It investigates how Restorationism builds its ecclesiology--which includes the reinstitution of a charismatic apostolate--directly from Ephesians 4. Chapter 5 considers the importance of the typological model of the Tabernacle of David to worship in Restorationism. Chapter 6 deals with eschatology, and how Restorationism conceives the consummation of the divine program of restoration.
