요약This dissertation examines the christology of Rudolf Bultmann and defends against the criticism of his christology leveled against him by Karl Barth, Gareth Jones, and Franklin Kay. It shows that Bultmann's christology is an organic part of his overall theological project and that for Bultmann theology is christology. The fact that Bultmann was a self-identified Lutheran has found little attention in the Bultmann literature, and yet is the key needed to understand his theology. Luther's emphasis on the individual who always stands coram deo, on God's free gift of a new life in Jesus Christ, and the emphasis on and commitment to the message of the New Testament as the locus of God's revelation with the corresponding distinction between the spirit ad the letter are the guiding principles of Bultmann's theology. Bultmann also stands in the tradition of Glaubenslehre, the endeavor to understand and explicate the kerygma, the message of the church and the New Testament, to modern interlocutors. In order to explain how the human being Jesus of Nazareth can be proclaimed as God's krisiv over the world and as the event of God's grace Bultmann explains how the proclaimer of the Kingdom of God---Jesus of Nazareth--- had to become the proclaimed messiah, and how and in what sense he is God, This dissertation examines how Bultmann reconstructs the message of Jesus of Nazareth, how and why the proclaimer, according to Bultmann, had to become the proclaimed, and how Bultmann sees his own christological construal validated by his reading of Paul and the Gospel of John.
