요약 : A number of themes of leadership recur in the ongoing narrative. First, the story stresses theocentric ruling. God consistently interacts with His creation and appoints His vice-regents. He demands obedience and ultimately determines the fate of all leaders from all nations. Second, all human leadership has purpose since it exists to fulfill God's will. Those that refuse to submit to God's rulership deviate from His purpose in recreation and move society toward injustice and disharmony.

요약 : Last, because depraved human rulers cannot maintain righteousness and justice, God must supply stability to any society. His covenants to Noah, Abraham, Moses, and David enable all nations to be secure and stable without global judgment. These promises provide steady hope for the whole world that divine blessing will progress through His re-created people led by a descendant of David. (Abstract shortened by UMI.).

요약 : The first chapter covers the book of Genesis and follows the narrator's focus on the Creator and His priority in creation. God made the world to reflect His righteousness, justice, and unity. Man and woman were uniquely created as God's vice-regents on earth and given the responsibility of overseeing, nurturing, and developing creation. Man's and woman's rebellion against God countered His righteousness resulting in increasing injustice and disharmony in the world. God remedies this situation by beginning a process of re-creating the world and moving it backs towards its original intention. The second chapter continues the story of Israel's descendants and follows the narrative in Exodus--Numbers. God fulfills His promise to Abraham by making Israel a great nation. Although these descendants languish in captivity, God does not forget His covenant and delivers them through Moses' leadership. The book of Leviticus brings attention to God's holiness and challenges His people to be pure and clean as He dwells in their midst. Moses' work of leadership is to assign priests to perform various necessary sacrifices and acts of purification on behalf of the entire population. With the redeemed people properly prepared to maintain holiness, God leads them through Moses toward the Promised Land. Numbers presents the tragic tale of Israel's continual rebellion against God's select leader Moses and their rejection of Him as their redeeming Ruler. The third chapter concludes the five book unit of the Pentateuch with a study of Deuteronomy. Moses presents his last leadership act. He verbalizes and inscribes the requirements of God's covenant to a new generation that would enter the land under Joshua's leadership and fervently presents both the rewards of obedience as well as consequences of disobedience.

요약 : The fourth chapter examines the books of Joshua--Judges and continues the story of Joshua leading Israel across the Jordan River to possess and reallocate the land of Canaan. Joshua's leadership is marked by great faithfulness and success as he fulfills the work of Moses. Joshua ends his life calling for the people to remain true to God, to drive out the remaining inhabitants of the land, and to avoid intermarriages with them. The question arises whether the people without a righteous and just leader will be obedient to God or not. Judges forms a strong contrast to Joshua. After Joshua and the elders of that generation are gone, the nation falls into cycles of rebellion, judgment, repentance, and deliverance. In each instance, God raises new military deliverers. As the nation as a whole b
