요약 : The dissertation concludes with a plea that the Song once again find a prominent place in the liturgy so that it might challenge and comfort the people of God of today, just as it did in ancient times.

요약 : The final two chapters study the liturgical history of the Song. Chapter Six studies the Song in Jewish liturgy, both its use in the Temple and in Second Temple times, and its much more limited use in the Jewish liturgy today. Chapter Seven probes the use of the Song in Christian liturgy and finds that the Song, once a staple of both the Liturgy of the Hours and the Easter Vigil liturgy, has diminished in importance from a much-loved poem to a mere snippet which most of the church never even prays.
초록/해제
요약 : The first five chapters attend to the poem itself and conclude that the poem is a magnificent work of Hebrew poetry and a text of considerable importance within the Hebrew Scriptures. Chapter One surveys attempts of previous scholars to pinpoint the origins of the poem and offers a tentative suggestion of its own, but concludes that the difficulty in fixing the genesis of the poem has rendered the Song accessible to persons through the millennia. Chapter Two presents a fresh and carefully-annotated English translation of the Song. Chapter Three analyzes the Song as a fine specimen of Hebrew poetry. Chapter Four studies the Song in its context in Deuteronomy and finds that it reinforces and promotes the importance of the Torah. Chapter Five studies the reverberations of the Song within its larger context of the Hebrew Scriptures as a whole.
초록/해제
요약 : The Song of Moses of Deuteronomy 32:1--43 has had a distinguished history in both Jewish and Christian liturgy. The purpose of the dissertation is to highlight features of the Song which account for its liturgical prominence and then to study that prominence in depth. The dissertation thus differs from other studies of the Song which focus on such evidently recalcitrant topics as the dating of the origins of the Song and its genre.
