■520    ▼aThe  purpose  of  this  study  was  to  measure  the  perceived  parental  involvement  on  career  choices  in  juvenile  delinquent  offspring.  The  77  study  participants  were  enrolled  in  a  paramilitary  reform  school.  Career  preferences  and  levels  of  perceived  parental  involvement  were  obtained  by  administering  the  Self-Directed  Search,  Parent  Report  Card,  and  a  demographics  questionnaire.  The  results  of  the  study  indicated  that  there  is  no  significant  correlation  between  perceived  parental  behavioral  interactions  and  career  development  of  offspring.  Also,  the  findings  did  not  demonstrate  any  significant  correlations  of  either  negative  or  positive  parental  interactions  to  the  predisposition  of  offspring  choosing  careers  that  require  college  or  higher  educational  training.  However,  perceived  parental  perceptions  did  present  as  an  influencer  of  career  direction.  It  can  be  deduced  from  this  data  that  career  preference  is  an  individual  choice  that  can  be  influenced,  but  not  necessarily  changed  by  parental  perceptions  and  attitudes.  The  size  of  the  sample  population  was  a  limiting  factor.  Further  research  is  recommended  to  assess  multicultural  influencers.  It  is  also  recommended  to  use  larger  and  more  diverse  study  groups,  this  may  yield  converse  results.  Follow-up  studies  implementing  alternate  theories  and  approaches,  such  as  measuring  career  maturity  are  also  recommended.
