■520    ▼aAn  exploratory  study  involving  interviews  with  42  parish  outreach  center  coordinators  in  a  northeastern,  suburban  Roman  Catholic  diocese.  The  study  focused  on  the  interest  in  and  capacity  of  parish  outreach  centers  to  use  government  funds  for  the  provision  of  social  services.  Findings  indicate  there  is  mixed  interest  and  limited  capacity  to  administer  government-funded  services,  and  an  overriding  desire  to  maintain  the  essential  qualities  of  existing  faith-oriented,  volunteer-based  services.
■520    ▼aImplications  for  the  social  work  profession  include  field  placement  opportunities  and  a  need  to  better  understand  how  congregation-based  services  function  as  part  of  a  community's  social  service  system.  Policy  change  recommendations  include  social  work  education  for  congregation-based  social  service  staff,  promotion  and  use  of  mediating  entities,  preservation  of  unique  services,  and  development  of  interfaith  coalitions.
