요약 : This dissertation investigated the relationships in one cross-cultural mentoring program. Three questions guided the research: (a) How do racially and ethnically diverse mentors who are human service practitioners and not faculty themselves, mentor White social work faculty in the Diversity Mentorship Program (DMP) in a Midwestern University's social work program?; (b) How does the reversal of the status differential influence the mentoring relationship?; and, (c) How does matching individuals of different races but of same or similar professional fields influence the mentoring relationship? Utilizing the case study method, this research is descriptive and post hoc by design. Participants included three faculty members (mentees) and five human service practitioners (mentors). The findings related to the cross-cultural context of the mentoring program are that: (a) mentors and mentees believed the program led to an understanding of the lived experiences of one another; and, (b) mentors and mentees proclaimed value to the mentoring arrangement. Regarding reversal of the status differential, the findings are that: (a) mentors and mentees acknowledged the role of learner for themselves and each other; and, (b) mentors and mentees recognized that creating partnerships was a way to mentor and be mentored. Regarding the matching of individuals of different races but of same or similar professional fields, the findings indicated that three important virtues were needed: (a) respectfulness among participants; (b) a demonstration of the value of each individual participant; and, (c) shared recognition of professional connectedness.
