초록/해제: 요약 : The issue of spirituality being an important component of substance abuse treatment has recently found a strong presence in the literature. However, studies examining the effects ones spirituality has on treatment for adults enrolled in Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) are lacking in the literature. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to establish to what extent spirituality predicts treatment outcomes in adults enrolled in traditional psycho-educational IOP. Treatment outcomes included self-reported alcohol and drug use during IOP treatment as measured by the Time Line Follow-Back (TLFB) and the degree in meeting individual treatment goals. Another purpose of this study was to discover if change in spirituality existed in adults who completed IOP from being enrolled to the time they were discharged. In meeting the proposed purpose a predictive quantitative survey design utilizing the Spiritual Involvement and Beliefs Scale (SIBS) was employed. Participants included 98 adults from eight different treatment facilities. This study was unable to prove its hypotheses. It did not find spirituality as a predictor to treatment outcomes, nor was spirituality changed during IOP treatment. A high number of uncontrollable variables and limitations are discussed which leads to questioning the studies findings.
