요약 : Findings from this study indicate that there are ethnic differences between the two groups. African American older adults, regardless of whether or not the participation in work program, were less alienated from their work than Korean American counterparts. Regardless of their ethnic backgrounds, all older adults in this study responded that the economic dimension is the most important in terms of their involvement in working in their later lives. However, there are distinctive differences between the African American working group and their Korean American counterparts in terms of social relation and psychological dimensions. African Americans seek social relationships as a key reason to work while Korean Americans are more concerned about psychological issues. Multivariate analysis of work involvement indicated that African American older adults are much more likely to be more centralized both in terms of work involvement and work salience than their Korean American counterparts. Overall, compared to Korean American counterparts, African American older adults were less alienated from work, more centralized to work, and more oriented to work entitlement and obligation. 요약 : The present study investigates the meaning of work patterns between and among 290 low-income, minority older adults. It examines ethnic differences utilizing a conceptual framework developed by the meaning of work (MOW) international team. In addition, it tests differences with respect to work meanings between low-income working minority elders and low-income non-working elders. Specifically three major research questions were: (1) what are the work meaning patterns for low-income, minority older adults, (2) are there ethnic differences with respect to work meaning and its sub-dimensions among low-income, minority older adults, and (3) are there differences with respect to work meaning and its sub-dimensions between low-income working minority elders and low-income non-working elders?
