■520    ▼aChapter  three  includes  a  survey  of  traditional  religions  (shamanism,  Buddhism,  and  Confucianism)  and  a  brief  political  and  social  outline  of  Korea.  The  author  traces  the  movement  from  the  arrival  of  the  early  Catholics.  Then  he  sketches  a  brief  history  of  mission  efforts  by  independent  missionaries  until  career  missionaries  arrived.  He  specifically  pursues  the  theological  influence  of  early  missionaries  in  the  formation  of  Korean  revivalism.  He  examines  the  background  of  the  early  missionaries  and  how  they  adopted  missionary  strategy  and  applied  it  in  the  Korean  context.
■520    ▼aFinally,  chapter  four  analyzes  the  impact  of  Korean  revivalism  in  1903-1963  on  church  growth  of  the  Korean  Church.  The  author  concludes  that  revival  directly  resulted  in  church  growth.  He  analyzes  the  positive  and  negative  influences  of  Korean  revivalism  and  offers  specific  findings  from  this  study  in  conclusion.
■520    ▼aOne  major  contribution  of  this  study  is  a  careful  analysis  of  Korean  revivalism  from  1903  to  1963.  Because  Korean  revivalism  was  developed  by  Korean  revival  leaders,  the  ministry  and  practices  of  selected  revival  leaders  such  as  R.  A.  Hardie,  Sun  Chu  Kil,  Ik  Doo  Kim,  Yong  Do  Lee,  and  Sung  Bong  Lee  are  investigated.  The  author  attempts  to  shed  light  on  the  distinctive  approach  of  each  revival  leader  through  the  study  of  biographical  background,  religious  practice,  ministry,  and  message.  In  addition,  he  explores  similarities  between  American  and  Korean  revivalism  by  examining  the  main  revival  messages  of  selected  revival  leaders.
■520    ▼aThe  primary  purpose  of  this  dissertation  is  to  examine  the  impact  of  Korean  revivalism  from  1903  to  1963  on  Korean  Evangelical  Christianity.  Korean  revivalism  was  originally  influenced  by  American  revivalism  through  the  work  of  early  American  missionaries  discipled  by  the  American  revival  movement.  Due  to  the  contributions  of  these  missionaries,  Korean  revivalism  parallels  American  revivalism.  Its  foundational  principle  is  Bible-centered.
