■520    ▼aBecause  these  sixty-three  suggested  changes  are  scattered  throughout  the  dissertation  and  are  the  result  of  tedious  work,  Part  Three  categorizes  them  to  help  the  reader  grasp  the  larger  picture.  Conclusions  are  then  drawn  from  this  cumulative  summary.  The  primary  conclusion  is  that  the  radical  change  in  methodology  has  not  resulted  in  significant  differences  from  the  commonly  accepted  modern  editions  of  the  Greek  NT.
■520    ▼aIn  light  of  these  weaknesses,  I  elaborate  and  defend  the  following  thesis  and  thereby  advance  NT  text-critical  methodology.
■520    ▼aPart  One  first  shows  the  manuscript  evidence  for  James  to  be  inferior  to  the  extant  evidence  for  the  gospels  and  Pauline  letters.  Second,  it  evaluates  the  canons  of  NT  textual  criticism.  Third,  it  describes  the  style  of  the  author  as  concise,  replete  with  literary  devices,  and  heavily  influenced  by  the  Greek  Old  Testament.  Finally,  it  integrates  these  conclusions  into  a  method  for  investigating  the  text  of  James.
■520    ▼aPart  Two  analyzes  295  discrepancies  in  the  epistle's  many  manuscripts  based  on  the  methodology  developed  in  Part  One.  Sixty-three  of  these  variation  units  are  determined  to  need  alteration  from  the  wording  of  the  standard  modern  editions  of  the  Greek  NT.
■520    ▼aThe  text  of  James  demands  a  nuanced  text-critical  methodology  in  which  internal  evidence  is  amplified  while  external  evidence  is  given  more  limited  consideration.  As  I  will  demonstrate,  the  paucity  of  external  evidence  for  James  validates  the  proposed  method,  which  will  produce  a  text  of  James  that  can  be  compared  with  texts  resulting  from  other  methods.  .
■520    ▼aThis  dissertation  addresses  two  weaknesses  in  NT  textual  criticism.  The  first  is  the  neglect  of  the  general  epistles  in  text-critical  scholarship.  The  second  is  the  application  of  a  single  text-critical  method  in  spite  of  the  diversity  of  the  NT  documents.
