요약 : After a detailed analysis of each individual psalm, the second part of the dissertation investigates the lexical, thematic, and structural connections between these three psalms, and between these psalms and the two adjacent psalm groups. The goal of this investigation is to determine the role of these psalms in the fifth book of the Psalter.
초록/해제
요약 : Psalms 135--137 are positioned between two major groups of psalms in the fifth book of the Psalter: (1) the Songs of Ascents (Psalms 120--134) and (2) the Last Davidic Psalter (Psalms 138--145). Unlike these latter two groups, Psalms 135--137 do not share a common superscription. In fact, all three psalms lack a superscription. In addition, Psalms 135 and 136 are both historical songs, recounting the past acts of Yahweh up to the time of the land possession. Psalm 137, on the other hand, is a post-exilic psalm in which blessing is pronounced on those who annihilate Israel's captors. Such similarities and differences between these psalms prompt questions concerning their strategic placement in the Psalter.
초록/해제
요약 : The first step in the investigation is a detailed poetic analysis of each psalm. This detailed analysis lays the necessary groundwork for the second part of the dissertation, the contextual analysis. The poetic analysis can be divided into two major categories. First, significant attention is devoted to an explication of the parallelism within each psalm. The focus of this analysis is on the parallelism on all levels of the poem. The second portion of the poetic examination is a compositional analysis which is characterized by a close reading of each psalm with an eye toward its structure and significant literary features (style).
초록/해제
요약 : The purpose of this dissertation is to apply a comprehensive poetic and contextual analysis to Psalms 135--137 in order to explain the meaning of each psalm, to determine the relationship of each psalm to the other psalms within this group, and to evaluate the group's possible function within Book V (Psalms 107--150) of the Psalter. The working hypothesis of this dissertation is that the location of these three psalms between these two collections is intentional and that an explanation of their function is important for a proper understanding of Book V of the Psalter.
