요약 : Gerhard locates Christ in the Word (both written and proclaimed) and in the Sacraments, which for Gerhard are Baptism and the Lord's Supper. Limitations of the study preclude an examination of Gerhard's views concerning the connection of Christ to the Word in general. Far from advocating a mechanical ritualism, Gerhard repeatedly and consistently encourages pious devotion to Christ as He is received in Baptism and the Lord's Supper.
초록/해제
요약 : Johann Gerhard (1582--1637) was the third premier theologian of the Lutheran Church, after Martin Luther and Martin Chemnitz. Gerhard was the foremost theologian of the era of "Lutheran Orthodoxy," sometimes pejoratively called "dead" orthodoxy, supposedly concerned for "right doctrine" at the expense of authentic devotional piety.
초록/해제
요약 : The author examines Gerhard's dogmatic statements (in the Loci Theologici) concerning Christ, Baptism, and the Lord's Supper, and then investigates how Gerhard connects Christ to Baptism and the Lord's Supper in his sermons and devotional works. Particularly important is the question of how Christ imparts Himself to Christians.
초록/해제
요약 : This study draws several conclusions: (1) Gerhard evidences pastoral concern for the faith and spiritual life of the laity, even in his dogmatic theology. (2) Gerhard believes that Christ is connected to both Baptism and the Lord's Supper as their author, celebrant, and as the gift that each imparts, although the specific nature of that impartation differs between Baptism and the Lord's Supper. (3) While Gerhard is not a demagogue of a spiritually "dead" orthodoxy, one must look for the spiritual life in the right place.
