■520    ▼aThis  study  explored  the  attitudes  of  Licensed  Masters  of  Social  Workers  (LCSWs)  in  the  State  of  Texas  toward  evidence-based  practice  (EBP)  and  their  perceptions  of  barriers  to  EBP  utilization.  A  total  of  1,728  LCSWs  in  Texas,  were  mailed  the  Evidence  Based  Practice  Attitudes  Scale  (EBPAS)  (Aarons,  2004),  the  BARRIERS  Scale  (Funk,  Champagne,  Wiese,  &  Tomquist,1991),  a  respondent's  personal  and  workplace  characteristics  survey  along  with  a  letter  requesting  their  opinions  and  experience  related  to  EBP.  Findings  include  that  no  one  younger  than  30  replied  to  the  request;  36%  report  reading  social  work  literature  less  than  three  times  per  year;  the  most  frequently  cited  barriers  to  EBP  are  related  to  lack  of  time  to  read  research  and  lack  of  time  to  implement  new  ideas  in  the  work  place.  A  MANOVA  on  EBPAS  found  a  weak  association  between  Solo/Group  Private  Practice  participation  and  the  combined  dependent  variables,    F  (4,  372)  =  3.102,  p  =  .016.  Post  hoc  ANOVAs  showed  Solo/Group  Private  Practice  means  differed  significantly  from  those  not  in  Solo/Group  Private  Practice  EBPAS  Requirements  subscale,  F  (1,392)  =  12.682,  p  =  .000.  A  MANOVA  on  BARRIERS  found  a  weak  association  between  Solo/Group  Private  Practice  participation  and  the  combined  dependent  variables,  F  (4,359)  =  3.263,    p  =  .012.  Post  hoc  ANOVAs  showed  Means  for  those  in  Solo/Group  Private  Practice  and  those  not  in  Solo/Group  Private  Practice  were  also  significantly  different  on  the  BARRIERS  Scale  subscale  for  characteristics  of  the  organization,    F  (1,402)  =  42.107,  p  =  .000.  The  means  for  those  in  high  bureaucracy  differed  significantly  from  those  not  in  high  bureaucracy  work  settings  on  the  BARRIERS  Scale's  characteristics  of  the  organization  subscale,  F  (1,409)  =  16.076,  p  =  .000.  Those  who  are  not  in  Solo/Group  private  practice  and  those  who  are  in  high  bureaucracy  structures  and  those  who  graduated  after  1992  were  more  willing  to  try  new  therapies  if  required  to  do  so  by  their  supervisor,  agency  or  the  state.  Those  who  are  not  in  Solo/Group  private  practice,  and  those  who  are  in  high  bureaucracy  structures  experience  more  barriers  to  using  research  in  practice.  Social  work  practice,  policy  and  research  implications  are  included.
