■520    ▼aIn  conclusion,  Whitesell's  qualities,  along  with  a  study  of  the  preaching  of  Adrian  Rogers  provided  a  basis  for  preaching  evangelistic  sermons.  Preachers  need  to  preach  evangelistic  sermons  incorporating  all  of  God's  Holy  Word,  which  includes  the  Old  Testament.
■520    ▼aRogers  used  illustrations,  especially  in  the  areas  of  salvation  (84.4%)  and  the  destructive  effects  of  sin  (42.2%).  Rogers  called  for  a  response  in  68.9%  of  the  sermons,  with  only  two  sermons  persuading  the  lost  to  be  saved  in  all  three  parts  of  the  sermon:  the  introduction,  body,  and  conclusion.
■520    ▼aThe  evangelistic  preaching  of  Rogers  from  the  Old  Testament  was  Christ  centered,  mentioning  Jesus  in  every  message  and  highly  exalting  him  in  88.9%.  Rogers  spoke  of  the  cross  in  62.2%  of  the  sermons  as  well.
■520    ▼aThe  purpose  of  this  dissertation  was  to  answer  the  question,  "To  what  extent  does  the  Old  Testament  evangelistic  preaching  of  Adrian  Rogers  utilize  the  qualities  recognized  by  Faris  Whitesell  for  an  evangelistic  sermon?"  A  research  standard  was  created  according  to  Whitesell's  Evangelistic  Preaching  and  the  Old  Testament.  Forty-five  Old  Testament  sermons  preached  by  Rogers  at  Bellevue  Baptist  Church  were  analyzed  by  the  research  standard.  The  researcher  noted  the  extent  to  which  the  preaching  of  Rogers  fulfilled  the  thirteen  qualities  offered  by  Whitesell.
■520    ▼aThe  research  revealed  that  Rogers  utilized,  to  some  extent,  all  thirteen  qualities  of  Whitesell  that  were  used  for  analysis.  Rogers  portrayed  God  as  the  central  reality  of  the  universe  in  91.1%  of  the  Old  Testaments  sermons  while  revealing  a  person's  need  for  God  in  82.2%.  At  times,  Rogers  mentioned  the  attributes  of  holiness,  justice,  righteousness,  wrath,  judgment,  repentance,  grace,  and  faith  in  his  evangelistic  preaching  from  the  Old  Testament.  Preachers  should  explain  these  concepts  to  the  congregation  and  not  assume  they  understand  them.  For  example,  the  concept  of  faith  was  mentioned  in  75.6%  of  the  sermons  preached  by  Rogers,  but  explained  in  only  5.9%.
