■520    ▼aThe  phenomenological  research  study  explored  the  outcome  of  the  lives  of  African  American  Christian  women  who  were  raised  without  their  biological  father  during  their  childhood.    Nearly  32  %  of  marriages  end  in  separation  or  divorce,  leaving  an  even  larger  percentage  of  African  American  children  to  live  in  homes  without  a  biological  father.    Although  the  issue  of  growing  up  without  a  biological  father  during  childhood  is  a  growing  phenomenon  and  widespread  problem  in  the  African  American  community,  little  research  has  been  done  to  examine  the  outcome  of  the  lives  of  African  American  women  who  were  raised  without  a  biological  father  during  their  childhood.    Ten  African  American  Christian  women  between  the  ages  30  --  45  who  were  raised  without  their  biological  father  during  their  childhood  were  recruited  through  purposeful  sampling  for  this  research  study.    Through  30-to-45  minute  in-depth  interviews,  the  African  American  women  in  this  study  described  their  perceptions  of  growing  up  fatherless  and  how  those  perceptions  influenced  their  emotional  concerns,  resiliency,  self-perception,  and  trust  in  their  financial,  romantic,  educational,  and  occupational  outcomes.
