■520    ▼aDomestic  violence  is  not  a  new  term  for  the  Christian  church;  especially  not  for  the  Hispanic  Christian  church.  Intimate  partner  violence  or  domestic  violence  threatens  the  well-being,  security,  and  lives  of  millions  of  religious  women  each  year  (McAllister  &  Roberts-Lewis,  2010).  When  churches  teach  women  to  be  submissive  to  their  husbands,  domestic  violence  within  their  marriage  can  arise.  Religious  leaders  can  inadvertently  contribute  to  the  perpetuating  cycle  of  domestic  violence  in  the  lives  of  these  women.
■520    ▼aIt  should  be  noted  that  this  study  is  limited  to  seeking  the  perceptions  of  Hispanic  Christian  women  towards  Hispanic  Christian  clergy  specifically  and  cannot  be  generalized  to  the  overall  Christian  population  or  Christian  clergy.  It  is  understood  that  not  all  Christian  churches  are  ineffectively  addressing  domestic  violence  and  that  many  religious  leaders  want  to  help  families  in  their  congregations  effectively  and  constructively  (Behnke,  Ames,  &  Hancook,  2012).
■520    ▼aOverall,  many  religious  leaders  are  not  well  prepared  in  being  able  to  provide  a  safe  and  supportive  environment  for  domestic  violence  victims  (Barnett,  Miller-Perrin,  &  Perrin,  2011).  Furthermore,  due  to  some  culture  barriers  and  immigration  issues,  these  victims  seek  guidance  from  their  religious  leaders  first  and  foremost,  but  more  often  than  not,  they  do  not  feel  their  assistance  was  effective  in  addressing  their  IPV  problems.
■520    ▼aThis  study  aims  to  seek  if  there  are  significant  differences  in  the  perceptions  of  the  effectiveness  from  the  clergy  for  Hispanic  Christian  women  who  have  experienced  intimate  partner  violence  compared  to  their  counterparts  who  have  not  experienced  intimate  partner  violence?
■520    ▼aThis  study  utilized  a  univariate  analysis  of  variance  (ANOVA)  to  measure  group  differences  between  women  who  had  suffered  from  intimate  partner  violence  and  those  who  had  not  and  their  perception  of  clergy's  effectiveness  in  addressing  domestic  violence  in  their  marriages.  This  study  utilized  a  self-developed  measure  by  the  researcher  to  gain  insight  to  women's  perceived  effectiveness  of  clergy  members  as  they  address  issues  of  domestic  violence  with  in  their  marriages.  There  was  no  statistical  significance  between  victims  of  domestic  violence  and  non-victims  of  domestic  violence  in  regards  to  their  perceptions  of  clergy's  effectiveness  in  addressing  issues  of  domestic  violence.  However,  while  no  statistically  significant  differences  were  found,  the  means  for  those  who  have  experienced  domestic  violence  versus  those  who  did  not  was  lower,  suggesting  that  with  further  analysis  might  be  fruitful.
