초록/해제: 요약 : An increasingly complex society requires a responsive church to offer more ministries than ever before. The ministries of the church are manifold. Some are traditional and well established; others are contemporary and innovative. Some are clearly based in scripture; others are more responsive to perceived needs. What in the church integrates all these ministries? What keeps them from splintering into special interest groups? The thesis of this dissertation is that preaching is uniquely placed and designed to validate, bless, inform, and integrate all of the ministries that emanate from the local church. No other office has so wide a hearing as does the preaching office. No other person is so looked to for direction and leadership in the congregation as is the preacher. No other individual has as significant a pulpit for articulating vision as does the preacher.

The Bible consistently indicates that God uses the spoken word to bring new understandings of ministry to God's people and to move them to faithful service.
