요약 : An increasingly complex society requires a responsive church to offer more ministries than ever before. The ministries of the church are manifold. Some are traditional and well established; others are contemporary and innovative. Some are clearly based in scripture; others are more responsive to perceived needs. What in the church integrates all these ministries? What keeps them from splintering into special interest groups? The thesis of this dissertation is that preaching is uniquely placed and designed to validate, bless, inform, and integrate all of the ministries that emanate from the local church. No other office has so wide a hearing as does the preaching office. No other person is so looked to for direction and leadership in the congregation as is the preacher. No other individual has as significant a pulpit for articulating vision as does the preacher.
초록/해제
요약 : Part Three deals with several practical considerations: how integrative preaching may work in different staffing configurations, a model for preparing sermons, and a description of how the thesis has fared in the author's ministry in one congregation over a 20 year span. The final chapter considers the preacher's use of language, the preacher's own life, and the "glorious foolishness" that marks this divine/human activity which God ordains and uses to build and bless the church in all its ministries of nurture and outreach.
초록/해제
요약 : Part Two examines how integrative preaching interacts with five specific areas of ministry: worship, spiritual formation, leadership development, church growth/renewal/mission, and pastoral care. Each chapter addresses biblical/theological concerns and practical matters, indicating where preaching works to validate, bless, inform, and integrate these ministries.
초록/해제
요약 : This thesis is developed in three sections. Part One establishes a theological and biblical framework. All understandings of Christian preaching begin with the scriptures. Successive chapters survey preaching in the Old Testament, in the New Testament, and in the history of the Church. The concluding chapter contains theological reflections. The Bible consistently indicates that God uses the spoken word to bring new understandings of ministry to God's people and to move them to faithful service.
