■520    ▼aDr.  Baron's  dissertation  is  entitled  "How  Do  Psychodynamic  Social  Workers  Understand  Empathy."  Lisa  Baron  interviewed  twenty  experienced  social  workers  regarding  their  understanding  of  empathy.  Using  grounded  theory  to  analyze  data,  Lisa's  findings  included  clinician's  beliefs  that  empathy  can  be  innate,  learned  or  both,  empathy  is  a  choice,  and  suspending  judgments  and  expectations  is  an  essential  part  of  empathy  in  the  psychotherapeutic  relationship.
