■520    ▼aThis  study  came  about  as  a  result  of  an  increasing  awareness  of  a  need  to  resolve  the  loss  of  an  unborn  child.  Whether  it  is  the  loss  of  the  parishioner's  own  unborn  child  or  that  of  a  friend  or  relative,  seldom  does  a  week  go  by  when  someone  in  our  worship  service  is  not  affected  by  this  kind  of  a  loss.
■520    ▼aIn  recent  years  a  number  of  books  have  been  written  on  the  subject  of  the  loss  of  an  unborn  child.  This  study  was  not  intended  to  be  a  replication  of  these  books,  but  rather  to  investigate  the  church's  present  ministry  to  those  grieving  the  loss  of  an  unborn  child.  This  study  included  a  qualitative  phenomenological  approach  aimed  to  investigate  what  kind  of  care  the  grieving  parents  of  unborn  children  would  desire  from  the  church.
■520    ▼aThis  study  included  fifteen  taped  interviews  which  examined  the  issues  of  awareness,  fear,  and  security.  More  specifically,  this  study  examined  the  best  way  that  grieving  parents  want  the  awareness  of  their  need  handled  by  the  church,  meaningful  methods  to  comfort  grieving  parents  and  the  need  to  reassure  parents  that  they  will  be  secure  in  divulging  the  sensitive  feelings  surrounding  the  loss  of  an  unborn  child.
