■520    ▼aThe  purpose  of  this  dissertation  was  to  identify  effective  Behavior  Therapy  techniques  in  social  science  literature,  to  determine  whether  there  are  biblical  prescriptions  of  Behavior  Therapy  techniques,  and  to  delineate  some  implications  for  the  use  of  Behavior  Therapy  within  the  field  of  pastoral  counseling.  An  overview  of  Behavioral  Therapy  was  presented  to  explain  the  theoretical  foundations  of  the  therapy.  Concepts  of  Behavior  Therapy  were  used  to  explain  that  there  are  biblical  concepts  for  the  use  of  pastoral  counseling.  This  research  was  undertaken  with  the  view  that  pastors  can  be  trained  with  a  biblical  perspective  of  Behavior  Therapy.  The  research  was  conducted  in  three  phases.
■520    ▼aFirst,  the  theories  of  Behavior  Therapy  were  reviewed  to  identify  and  explore  the  principles  and  techniques.  A  brief  examination  of  theoretical  foundations  of  Classical  Conditioning  Theory,  Operant  Behavioral  Theory,  Social  Learning  Theory,  and  Cognitive  Theory  of  Behavior  Therapy  were  presented.
■520    ▼aSecond,  Old  Testament  and  New  Testament  verses  in  the  Bible  were  reviewed  to  identify  the  biblically  accurate  concepts  of  Classical  Conditioning  Theory,  Operant  Behavior  Theory,  Social  Learning  Theory,  and  Cognitive  Learning  Theory.  Several  examples  were  determined  to  be  the  best  representation  of  biblically  accurate  verses  that  demonstrated  Behavior  Therapy.  Special  attention  was  given  to  the  Books  of  Genesis,  Exodus,  Judges,  and  Daniel  in  the  Old  Testament.  In  the  New  Testament  the  Books  of  Mark,  John,  and  Timothy  were  given  special  attention.
■520    ▼aThird,  samples  of  situations  in  which  Behavior  Therapy  was  used  and  biblical  examples  were  found  to  justify  the  use  of  Behavior  Therapy.  Pastoral  counselors  were  examined  to  review  if  they  used  Behavior  Therapy  and  their  reasons  for  using  the  therapy.
