■520    ▼aThis  dissertation  deals  with  the  following  facts  which  are  essential  in  understanding  the  importance  of  the  topic.  First  of  all,  the  author  will  examine  the  history  of  the  Bible  translation,  its  publication  and  distribution  in  Manchuria,  Japan  and  Korea.  Second,  the  important  role  of  the  Korean  lay  people  in  translating,  printing  and  distributing  the  Bible  will  be  illuminated.  Third,  this  study  will  demonstrate  that  the  Bible  translation  brought  the  rediscovery  and  the  popularization  of  the  Korean  language  which  had  a  tremendous  impact  on  Korean  society  and  culture.  Fourth,  this  study  will  also  show  that  in  translating  the  Bible  the  Protestant  missionaries  were  greatly  influenced  by  the  Roman  Catholics  who  had  come  to  Korea  one  century  earlier.  Finally,  this  study  will  show  how  the  Bible  translation  contributed  to  the  Korean  language  study.
