■520    ▼aPart  I  explores  my  reactions  to  personal,  academic,  and  professional  training  in  an  accredited  Clinical  Pastoral  Education  Program.  My  reactions  are  elicited  by  my  self-evaluation  of  competency  to  handle  counseling  problems  in  a  North  Carolina  Methodist  parish  ministry.  An  early  case  is  made  for  a  new  model  in  pastoral  counseling  in  the  parish  ministry  upon  making  some  basic  assumptions  about  the  present  counseling  situation  and  upon  noting  recent  publications  in  the  area  of  pastoral  counseling.
■520    ▼aPart  I  includes  a  description  of  the  setting  where  a  proposed  model  for  counseling  is  needed,  statement  of  objectives,  definition  of  key  terms,  general  background  information,  limitations  of  the  study,  and  the  nature  and  order  of  presentation.  Part  I  is  also  largely  concerned  with  a  review  of  existing  literature  on  the  subject  matter  found  in  books,  periodicals,  and  articles.
■520    ▼aPart  II  is  concerned  with  model  justification  as  the  model  is  developed  from  an  extensive  section  on  Christology,  and  extensive  research  as  found  in  Methodist  clergy  and  lay  people's  expectations  of  pastoral  counseling  through  the  use  of  questionnaires.
■520    ▼aPart  III  devotes  a  section  to  clarifying  the  pastor's  role  in  the  counseling  process,  gives  a  description  of  the  proposed  model  for  counseling,  followed  by  an  illustrative  graph  demonstrating  the  procedure  for  using  the  model.
■520    ▼aPart  IV  uses  actual  case  studies  in  pastoral  counseling  as  the  cases  demonstrate  the  use  of  the  model.  Following  each  counseling  session,  an  analysis  of  the  counseling  session  is  recorded,  along  with  evaluating  the  model  and  the  pastor's  role,  become  a  part  of  each  counseling  session  shared  in  this  project.
■520    ▼aPart  V  is  concerned  with  concluding  remarks  concerning  the  need  for  the  model  in  pastoral  counseling  in  the  parish  ministry.
■520    ▼aAppendices  include  copies  of  the  two  questionnaires  distributed  for  data  gathering  and  evaluation  purposes.  The  letter  sent  to  all  Methodist  ministers  urging  their  support  in  this  data  gathering  process  is  also  included.
