■520    ▼aIn  response  to  the  debate  about  the  separation  of  church  and  state,  and  to  concerns  expressed  by  policymakers  about  the  constitutionality  of    using  faith-based  organizations  (FBOs)  to  implement  public  policy,  researchers  have  attempted  to  differentiate  the  religious  and  nonreligious  activities  of  FBOs  by  studying  their  denominational  affiliations,  types  of  social  services  provided,  geographical  locations,  and  religious  doctrines.  Research  investigating  the  religious  motivations  of  workers  has  been  scarce,  however.  The  purpose  of  this  quantitative  study  was  to  explore  the  religious  motivations  of  Christian  workers  by  determining  whether  a  relationship  existed  between  2  dimensions  of  religious  internalization---identified  and  introjected---as  measured  by  the  Christian  Religious  Internalization  Scale,  and  faith-work  integration,  as  measured  by  the  Faith  at  Work  Scale.  Deci  and  Ryan's  organismic  integration  theory  and  Dik  and  Duffy's  religious  concept  of  calling  informed  the  theoretical  framework  for  this  study.  Survey  research  was  used  to  collect  data  from  a  purposive  sample  of  Christian  workers  from  both  FBOs  and  secular  social  service  organizations  (N  =  109).  Spearman's  rho  analysis  revealed  a  significant  relationship  between  identified  religious  internalization  and  faith-work  integration,  suggesting  that  Christians  who  personalize  their  beliefs  integrate  their  beliefs  into  their  work.  The  same  analysis  did  not  reveal  a  relationship  between  introjected  religious  internalization  and  faith-work  integration.  These  findings  promote  social  change  by  illustrating  the  role  of  the  religious  motivations  of  social  service  workers  at  both  FBOs  and  secular  organizations.  In  light  of  these  findings,  policymakers  may  need  to  reevaluate  the  constitutionality  of  using  FBOs  and  secular  organizations  to  determine  whether  faith  sharing,  a  religious  activity,  is  occurring.  If  faith  sharing  is  occurring,  then  concerns  about  the  constitutionality  of  using  FBOs  to  implement  public  policy  may  be  substantiated.
