초록/해제: 요약 : This work is a thematic study of the theologically salient issues raised in the literary works and social activism of Wole Soyinka based on the argument that it is disaffection with the Christian God that explains Soyinka's use of Christ as a foil to his muse and god Ogun. He personally sought God about whom he had been taught as a child in an Anglican Christian home and school. The study examines Soyinka's background in order to trace his development especially with reference to Christianity and other major influences within the Yoruba culture and the larger Nigerian society.

초록/해제: 요약 : Soyinka gradually moved from childhood tutelage in rote belief to a prolonged period of experimentation with various traditions, mainly the Yoruba worldview and culture, Christianity, and modem western influences. He eventually settled for a tragic view of life in which evil and good co-exist in a balance and which serves as a social realism that requires a strong personal will. In the course of Soyinka's development, he continues a monologue with Christianity through copious references to the figure of Christ and Scriptures---aspects that raise several theological themes addressed in this study. These include reconciliation of humankind to God, the person and work of Christ, the Holy Spirit as a basis for discussion of spirituality in Africa, and the necessity of the ethos of love---a love that often seems missing in the colonial enterprise of European Christian presence in Africa.
