■520    ▼aThe  Second  Vatican  Council  document  on  the  church,  Lumen  gentium  ,  asserts  that  parents  are  to  be  first  preachers  to  their  children.  This  thesis  project  addresses  this  unexpected  claim  by  acknowledging  the  Christian  family  as  the  domestic  church  and  by  equipping  parents  with  the  practical  tools  to  preach  in  the  home.
■520    ▼aChapter  1  presents  the  theology  of  the  Christian  family  as  the  domestic  church  in  order  to  lay  the  proper  foundation  for  parents  to  accept  their  role  as  ecclesial  leaders  in  the  home.  Ecclesiological  perspectives,  incorporating  historical  evidence  and  pastoral  documents,  defend  the  legitimacy  of  the  domestic  church.
■520    ▼aChapter  2  outlines  the  development  of  sacramental  theology,  which  has  led  to  our  contemporary  understanding  of  grace  as  God's  presence.  Karl  Rahner's  theology  on  the  mysticism  of  everyday  life,  the  potential  sacramentality  of  each  moment,  and  the  sacramental  nature  of  the  domestic  church  are  examined.
