Satan in the synoptic Gospels- [e-book]

초록/해제: 요약 : The role of Satan in the synoptic Gospels is the subject of this study. I have approached these documents by asking how Satan figures in the theological and narrative scheme of each evangelist. Although these Gospels share a common core of material, each develops a distinctive perspective on who Satan is and what his function is. The first chapter offers an analysis of the evolution of ideas about diabolical and demonic figures in Second Temple period Judaism. It offers background against which to understand the complexity of material pertaining to Satan in the synoptic Gospels. Subsequent chapters delineate the role of Satan in each of the first three Gospels, as well as the synoptic sayings source (Q). Mark portrays Satan primarily as Jesus' chief adversary in an apocalyptic struggle, and this rivalry is also a theme in other writings of the synoptic tradition. Matthew has a particular interest in Satan's involvement in human sinfulness. Luke intensifies an aspect of Satan's activities already present in Mark, which is Satan's attacks on humanity through demon possession and other physical suffering. He also narrates Jesus' passion with Satan as a pivotal agent. An appendix discusses the relationship of the Gospel of John to synoptic tradition about the devil.
