요약 : The purpose of this study was to assess the degree to which governance structures and practices of one of the independent school systems, the Calvinistic/Reformed Christian day schools, reflect the espoused values of that faith community. To what extent does what these people believe direct such governance activity as decision making?

요약 : Using a naturalistic-interpretive oriented case study methodology, data were collected through document searches and through semi-structured interviews involving two distinct types of participants. The first group of participants included people informed regarding the theological, epistemological, and historical developments within the Calvinist movement. The second group of participants included five people who have been involved with Christian school governance or have been directly affected by such governance. This group included trustees, administrators and a staff member who was dismissed by the board of a Christian school.

요약 : The study identified a number of Calvinistic/Reformed faith assumptions that spawned such schools. It also identified a number of significant cultural events that shaped the contemporary Christian school movement. As a result of such culture shaping events Christian schools have opted for governance structures that highly regard parental control of education rather than education being under the locus of control of either the church, as in parochial schools, or the state, public schools. Supporters of such schools remain wary of state directives in education with their potential displacement of the Christian school's mission.

요약 : The "portraits" reveal that faith does influence Christian school governance and that the Calvinist world view shapes particular notions of governance. Integrity with Reformed-Christian faith requires an ongoing purposive reflectivity to remain faithfully engaged in contemporary culture. The absence of such reflectivity permits an easier displacement of the unique mission of such schools, in which case they become schools very much like all other schools.

요약 : This study prompted a number of reflective comments on the utility of the interpretive case study methodology for educational administration research and the applicability of this study for the practice of school administration.
