■520    ▼aBoth  theologically  and  historically,  there  was  a  definite  need  for  reform.  From  a  theological  standpoint,  Christian  religious  reform  was  needed  because  of  humankind's  failure  to  faithfully  accept,  and  consistently  observe,  those  tenets  originally  provided  by  Jesus  Christ,  the  Apostles',  and  other  first  century  evangelists.  Instead  Christian  thought  vacillated  between  the  basic  tenets  and  other  doctrinal  issues  over  the  centuries.
■520    ▼aHistorically,  there  was  also  a  need  for  reform  because  of  the  perceived  breakdown  of  the  Church's  moral  fabric.  With  its  emphasis  on  the  individual,  the  Renaissance  era  promulgated  humankind's  interest  in  their  world.  The  common  people  had  become  increasingly  more  inquisitive,  for  they  desired  to  know  more  about  those  things  affecting  their  lives,  namely,  their  religion.
