■520    ▼aThe  purpose  of  this  ministry  focus  paper  is  to  re-shape  the  paradigm  of  the  local  Episcopal  congregation  according  to  principles  and  practices  that  foster  more  effective  outreach  and  ministry  in  the  post-Christendom  era.  This  paradigm  must  be  configured  for  maximal  response  to  the  cultural  trends  and  historical  antecedents  that  are  shaping  this  age;  appropriate  adaptation  of  Episcopal  Church  culture  and  systems  that  may  otherwise  inhibit  efforts  to  further  the  Kingdom  of  God  in  this  place  and  time,  and  development  of  effective  Christian  community  building  environments  through  the  use  of  multiple  congregations.
■520    ▼aThe  development  of  such  a  paradigm  requires  a  shift  in  vision  that  will  necessarily  alter  long  valued  maintenance  practices  and  result  in  a  greater  commitment  to  mission.  This  vision  is  multi-congregational  in  nature  and  extends  into  a  local  region  to  establish  new  congregations  that  will  practice  excellence  in  worship,  fellowship,  discipleship,  ministry,  and  evangelism.  Since  The  Episcopal  Church  operates  from  a  hierarchical  jurisdictional  structure,  this  paradigm  effectively  stretches  the  current  model  of  the  local  church.
■520    ▼aThis  paper  is  divided  into  three  sections.  The  first  section  will  examine  the  need  for  a  new  paradigm  for  the  local  church,  particularly  in  the  denominations  that  are  traditionally  mainline  Protestant  and  liturgically  centered  in  their  worship.  The  current  contemporary  culture  will  be  explored  as  the  ministry  context  and  a  rationale  will  be  given  for  denominational  paradigm  adaptation.  Both  biblical  and  historical  elements  are  germane  to  this  discussion  and  will  be  included.
■520    ▼aThe  second  section  will  offer  an  analysis  of  the  changes  required  in  the  local  church  culture  in  order  to  make  more  positive  response  to  the  harvest,  Key  readiness  factors  must  be  defined  and  basic  church  systems  modified  in  order  to  prepare  the  local  church  for  multiple  attempts  at  church  multiplication.  These  paradigm  components  will  be  explored  in  detail.
■520    ▼aThe  third  section  will  define  the  elements  of  the  paradigm  that  will  foster  church  multiplication  at  the  local  church  level.  The  scope  of  this  paradigm  is  intended  to  encompass  a  variety  of  denominational  traditions  that  tend  to  experience  similar  challenges  in  reaching  the  wider  culture  as  they  seek  to  share  the  gospel.
