■520    ▼aThe  paper  discusses  how  Holy  Spirit  transforms  churches  to  fulfill  the  mission  of  God,  baptizing  the  imagination  and  equipping  and  guiding  the  church  in  its  tasks.  Another  area  of  inquiry  is  how  Calvin's  insights  on  the  Holy  Spirit  and  the  Spirit's  work  in  God's  mission  add  to  the  missional  conversation  taking  place  in  churches  and  governing  bodies  today.

■520    ▼aAs  churches  throughout  the  nation  and  the  world  struggle  with  the  challenges  of  the  church  today  ---  societal,  cultural  and  spiritual  ---  many  are  led  to  the  idea  of  the  missional  church.  A  growing  number  of  churches  of  the  Reformed  faith  tradition,  including  many  Presbyterian  churches,  are  finding  revival  and  transformation  with  the  ideas  of  the  missional  faith  pioneers  of  today.  Many  of  these  faith-based  ideas  mesh  with  the  theology  of  John  Calvin,  who  also  faced  a  world  of  great  cultural  change.  The  Bible-rooted  theology  that  God  gave  Calvin  has  much  in  common  with  key  tenets  of  the  missional  movement.  The  missional  church  can  learn  from  Calvin's  insights,  and  receive  strength  and  encouragement  from  common  purposes  in  the  service  of  God.
