■520    ▼aBrokenBuilders  United  Methodist  Church  was  a  two-year  old  Korean-American  congregation  located  in  Manhattan  at  the  time  of  envisioning  the  project.  It  was  comprised  of  members,  whose  ages  are  18  to  40  years,  in  the  journey  of  living  out  their  faith  in  the  postmodern  world.
■520    ▼aNot  many  of  the  newcomers  belong  to  a  small  group  in  which  they  might  learn  to  live  their  lives  intimately  connected  as  Christ  followers.  Evidently,  many  young  adults  often  do  not  want  to  be  deeply  connected  with  the  communal  life  of  the  congregation  even  while  desperately  seeking  for  a  sense  of  belonging  somewhere  else.  It  might  be  because  of  their  previous  experiences  from  their  Christian  parents  or  a  traditional  church  where  there  were  not  able  to  show  their  honest  self.  This  project  was  inspired  by  one  person  who  had  such  experiences  and  ran  away  from  her  Christian  life  for  several  years.  She  said,  "I  can  share  all  my  brokenness  in  my  Mokjang.  I  can  be  very  honest  to  myself  and  to  friends  here."  Mokjang  is  what  we  call  our  small  group.  She  found  an  intimate  space  where  she  could  "share  'naked'  experiences,  feelings,  and  thoughts"  in  her  Mokjang.
■520    ▼aA  26-year-old  woman,  a  student  at  Columbia  Law  School,  collapsed  before  me  and  cried  out,  "I  want  to  hear  the  voice  of  the  Holy  Spirit!"  A  29-yearold  Mokjang  leader  recently  wrote  to  other  leaders  and  to  me  via  Facebook:  "Let's  have  an  open,  honest  and  serious  dialogue  to  take  our  Mokjangs  into  a  place  of  belonging  where  we  can  help  other  to  follow  Christ."  As  they  have  gone  deeper  into  their  spiritual  journey,  these  young  people  deeply  desire  to  sense  the  presence  of  the  Holy  Spirit  and  to  learn  how  to  guide  others  in  the  co-partnership  with  the  Holy  Spirit.
■520    ▼aThe  objective  of  the  project  is  to  give  more  direction  for  the  participants'  spiritual  development  and  to  initiate  a  discipleship  approach  to  help  sustain  the  growth  and  nurture  of  the  congregation.
